Sons of Sparta is already running at 60 FPS on KyTyPS5 in an extended test published on September 30, 2026. The demonstration shows about 34 minutes of God of War Sons of Sparta on PC, with the emulator maintaining performance close to 60 FPS during a good portion of the session.
The test was performed on a PC with Intel Core i5-14400F and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. According to the technical coverage of the demonstration, the build used is a custom fork of KyTyPS5 that is not yet publicly available. Therefore, the result should not be treated as guaranteed performance in the current public version of the emulator.
In addition, the session still exhibits noticeable stutters and audio issues. Even so, the duration of the test is relevant: instead of just booting the game or showing a few minutes of gameplay, the recording follows a long session without immediate interruption.

The central point of the test lies in relative stability. For approximately 34 minutes, the game enters gameplay, traverses environments, faces enemies, and keeps advancing without crashing in the first few minutes.
This does not mean emulation is perfect. OC3D described the framerate as mostly stable near 60 FPS, but also highlighted stutters and still incorrect audio. Thus, the concrete breakthrough lies in the combination of session duration, performance, and the ability to keep the game running.
Another coverage of the same test highlights the hardware used: Core i5-14400F and RTX 4060. Therefore, the result also draws attention for not depending on a high-end GPU like the RTX 5090.
Fork used in the test is not public yet
There is an important limitation before any comparison with the KyTyPS5 available on GitHub. The demonstration uses a custom build. Thus, users who download the public version may encounter different behavior.
The official KyTyPS5 project itself states that the emulator is still in an early stage, with limited compatibility and significant changes between builds. Currently, the project focuses work on compatibility and boot reliability.
This context also explains why specific results need to be associated with the tested revision. An experimental improvement may take some time to reach the main repository or may require adjustments before a public integration.
2D game reduces graphic load, but the progress remains relevant
God of War Sons of Sparta uses a 2D structure with pixel art, therefore it does not impose the same load on the graphics system as a 3D game like Demon's Souls or Marvel's Wolverine. Even so, KyTyPS5 needs to reproduce the environment expected by the PS5 software, in addition to synchronizing CPU, GPU, memory, audio, and system calls.
Therefore, directly comparing the 60 FPS of Sons of Sparta with heavier 3D games would be inappropriate. The Allves Games showed Demon’s Souls reaching 40–50 FPS on KyTyPS5, but that scenario involves a very different workload.
Likewise, the project has been advancing with more complex titles. The KyTyPS5 has already brought Marvel’s Wolverine to gameplay and accelerated Astro Bot, although each game presents its own limitations.

Sony Interactive Entertainment launched God of War Sons of Sparta for PlayStation 5 on February 12, 2026. The game was developed by Mega Cat Studios in partnership with Santa Monica Studio and turns the series into a retro-inspired 2D action-platform adventure.
The story follows Kratos and Deimos during their youth, in the period of Spartan training. In addition to the campaign, the title features a challenge mode called The Pit, which can be played solo or in local two-player co-op once unlocked.
Combat utilizes spear and shield, featuring attacks, dodges, blocks, and parries. The simpler structure from a graphical standpoint helps explain why the game emerges as a good candidate for compatibility tests on a young emulator.
Audio and stutter still prevent a perfect experience
Although the frame rate is the highlight of the demo, the audio still exhibits clear flaws. The session also shows minor stutters. Therefore, it is not correct to describe the experience as perfect or completely equivalent to the console.
This type of difference matters because "reaching 60 FPS" does not mean, by itself, that the entire campaign runs without errors. Full compatibility requires prolonged stability, correct audio, the absence of severe graphical glitches, and consistent progress from beginning to end.
For now, the video proves a long and functional session. However, it does not prove that all parts of the game can be completed without issues.
KyTyPS5 continues to advance on different platforms
KyTyPS5 is a free and open-source emulator written in C++. The project offers support for Windows and Linux, as well as experimental support for macOS on Apple Silicon via Rosetta 2 and MoltenVK.
The Allves Games also monitored the arrival of KyTyPS5 on macOS, another sign that the project continues to expand its technical base while working on game compatibility.
The official repository makes it clear that KyTyPS5 has no affiliation with Sony Interactive Entertainment and does not distribute games or protected system software. For testing, the user must use only files obtained legally from their own copies.

The result of Sons of Sparta does not turn KyTyPS5 into an emulator ready for the entire PS5 catalog. However, it demonstrates that a commercial game released in 2026 can already run an extended session on a project fork with performance close to 60 FPS.
In addition, the test offers a useful comparison point for future public builds. If the fork's changes are integrated into the main project, it will be possible to verify whether the same behavior is maintained on other computers and revisions.
Until then, the safest data is this: Sons of Sparta already reaches around 60 FPS in an extended demonstration on KyTyPS5, but it still exhibits stuttering and audio issues, and the build used was not made publicly available.
