The Tomba! 2 Recompiled 0.2.0 received an update on October 9, 2026 that fixes missing stages and characters in the experimental PC port. In addition, developer mstan has enabled adaptive widescreen and 1080p internal rendering by default in the North American version of the game.
According to the official version 0.2.0 patch notes, the changes improve the presentation of Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return, originally released for PlayStation. The project remains in development and features packages for Windows and Linux.
Tomba! 2 Recompiled 0.2.0 fixes missing stages
The main new feature is the reconstruction of the stages. Previously, certain objects, characters, and pieces of terrain could disappear or appear incomplete when the player moved the camera. To check out another PlayStation game adaptation, also see the experimental port of Wipeout 3 for Android.
Now, the developer has fixed issues affecting trees, signs, effects, characters, and sections of the scenery. For example, the improvement includes the starting village, where certain parts of the terrain did not appear correctly.
In addition, the project now keeps 343 non-empty terrain cells from the starting area available. Previously, the selection depended on a more limited region around the camera. Therefore, certain objects would disappear prematurely.

Furthermore, the author fixed projection glitches that eliminated narrow terrain faces. This way, the renderer manages to preserve more environment details during movement.
Adaptive widescreen and 1080p are enabled by default
Another major change in the Tomba! 2 Recompiled 0.2.0 involves presentation on modern screens. Now, adaptive widescreen and 1080p internal rendering are enabled by default for the North American edition.
The adaptive mode tracks the window size and allows expanding the visible area of the scenery. Thus, instead of merely stretching the PlayStation's 4:3 image, the program can reveal additional parts of the environment during gameplay.
In addition, the developer fixed a visual discontinuity between the sea and the clouds that appeared near the edges of the original 4:3 composition.
However, not all game screens use the expanded field of view. Menus, videos, and originally two-dimensional elements preserve the presentation appropriate to the content.

Therefore, the update represents a significant advancement for anyone wishing to play the original version on current monitors. However, widescreen still depends on the compatibility of the areas and graphical effects.
Performance improves, but the author does not promise constant 30 FPS
In addition, the official release notes describe changes to scenery processing. The developer adjusted the execution paths responsible for loading and rendering parts of the terrain.
According to their tests, certain movements and jumps in the starting village now produce approximately 30 new frames per second, even with the full scenery.
However, this measurement refers to the sections evaluated by the author. It does not prove a minimum of 30 FPS throughout the entire game, nor does it represent an independent benchmark.
Furthermore, the original logic maintains its two-VBlank pacing. Thus, the update seeks to preserve the timing of Tomba! 2 while fixing issues that hindered presentation.
How does the native Tomba! 2 port for PC work?
The Tomba! 2 Recompiled uses the psxrecomp tool to transform parts of the original PlayStation code into native computer code.
To achieve this, the project prepares code components from different areas of the game in advance. However, it still uses interpretation and compilation mechanisms during execution when it encounters parts that lack full native coverage.
Therefore, it is not correct to state that 100% of Tomba! 2 has already been statically recompiled. There is also no confirmation that the developer has completed the entire campaign without issues.
According to , official README, the program gathers prepared code from all 22 original areas, in addition to shared components. The port remains experimental and may exhibit bugs.
Tomba! 2 Recompiled maintains fast loading between areas
In addition, the project retains the Seamless Loading feature, introduced as standard in version 0.1.0 on October 5, 2026. Therefore, this functionality did not debut in 0.2.0.
The system prepares a local cache using data from the user-provided game copy. This allows the program to significantly reduce loading times between certain areas.
In addition, the feature aims to preserve the original behavior of music, videos, and logic during transitions. Users can disable it in the mod options if they prefer traditional loading.

It is worth noting that this recompilation is different from Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return Special Edition, a 2025 commercial rerelease developed by another team. The projects have different technologies, distributions, and goals.
How to download and install Tomba! 2 Recompiled 0.2.0
For now, the developer is offering experimental builds for Windows x64 and Linux x86_64. Both include OpenBIOS, an open-source alternative for booting the game without requiring a commercial PlayStation BIOS file.
However, the packages do not include Tomba! 2. The user must provide the files from their own copy of the North American edition, identified by the code SCUS-94454.
Installation on Windows
- Access the official 0.2.0 release of Tomba2Recomp.
- Download the ZIP package for Windows x64.
DOWNLOAD TOMBA 2 RECOMPILED FOR WINDOWS UPDATED
- Extract the ZIP to a folder on your computer.
- Open the Tomba2Recomp.exe executable.
- Select the disc image of your own North American copy of Tomba! 2.
- Keep OpenBIOS as default, unless you need a compatible legitimate BIOS.
- Check the video settings and click Launch to start.
If you are updating an old installation, preserve your save files. Also, check the release guidelines before reusing previous mods or settings.
Linux Installation
- Access the same official page for version 0.2.0.
- Download the AppImage package for Linux x86_64.
DOWNLOAD TOMBA 2 RECOMPILED PORT LINUX UPDATED
- Save the AppImage to a folder of your choice.
- Grant execution permission to the file through system properties or the terminal.
- Open the AppImage and select the files from your own copy of the game.
- Configure the options and test the execution.
Linux support remains experimental. Therefore, operation may vary across distributions, drivers, and hardware configurations.
What about the Italian version of Tombi! 2?
The repository also documents experimental support for the Italian PAL edition of Tombi! 2. However, it has its own distribution and should not be confused with the 0.2.0 update intended for the North American version.
Additionally, files from one region should not be automatically mixed with those from another. The developer maintains specific checks to identify the data of each edition.
Port still needs thorough testing
Despite the visual fixes, the Tomba! 2 Recompiled 0.2.0 remains in development. The author has not yet confirmed full native coverage or a flawless complete campaign.
Additionally, the project does not replace the need to own the original game. It provides the infrastructure to run code recompiled from the user's legitimate data.
Finally, those interested can follow upcoming releases, report issues, and check limitations in the Tomba2Recomp official repository.
