RPCS3 gets RSX, input, and Vulkan fixes in October 2 build

The build RPCS3 from October 2, 2026 brings together a new batch of fixes for the PlayStation 3 emulator. The changes affect the RSX, SDL controller reconnection, debugger, system modules, and the Vulkan backend. In addition, the project updated VulkanMemoryAllocator to version 3.4.0.

This set arrived following the RPCS3 0.0.43 milestone, published on September 30. Therefore, this is not a new numbered release. RPCS3 follows a continuous development model, in which recent builds incorporate commits made after the latest milestone.

RPCS3 Build fixes RSX sorting and FIFO

Among the graphical changes, the RPCS3 build incorporates fixes related to RSX command ordering and flow. These changes act on how the emulator organizes work sent to the PlayStation 3's graphics processor. Thus, the goal is to reduce incorrect behaviors in specific scenarios, without promising a universal performance gain.

The debugger also received adjustments. At the same time, components such as cellGem, cellCamera, cellVoice, and cellSearch underwent fixes. These modules handle different features of the original system and, therefore, the practical impact depends on the game or application being executed.

SDL input receives reconnection fix

The input layer also changed. The team adjusted the reconnection behavior of SDL devices, used by different controllers on the computer. Thus, the build seeks to better handle situations where a gamepad is disconnected and reconnected during use.

However, the fix does not mean that all controller issues have been eliminated. Gamepad models, drivers, and operating systems can still produce distinct behaviors. Therefore, users who were facing specific glitches should test the current build before considering the problem resolved on their own hardware.

VulkanMemoryAllocator 3.4.0 enters the RPCS3 build

On the Vulkan backend, the project has updated VulkanMemoryAllocator to 3.4.0. The library assists with graphics memory management in Vulkan applications. Consequently, keeping this component up to date brings RPCS3 closer to the fixes and improvements accumulated by the dependency.

Furthermore, this does not equal, on its own, a guaranteed FPS increase. The effect depends on how the emulator utilizes the library and the execution path taken by each game. Even so, the update is technically relevant because it affects a core dependency of the graphics backend.

Update is posterior to RPCS3 0.0.43

The Allves Games recently published the main features of RPCS3 0.0.43, including Big Picture, collections, and trophies via RPCN. The October 2 build is posterior to this milestone and focuses on ongoing development fixes.

In addition, the project had already worked on specific Vulkan improvements. An example is the workaround for NVIDIA GPUs. However, the current set should not be confused with that optimization, as it brings together different changes in RSX, input, system modules, and dependencies.

As always, RPCS3 does not include firmware or commercial games. The user must use data legally obtained from their own console and media. Furthermore, since this is a development build, new fixes may arrive quickly.
