Jeff Grubb, an insider who correctly leaked information about Dead Space Remake, in addition to other games, has now claimed that Mortal Kombat 12 is likely the next title from NetherRealm Studios, since the Warner Bros is reportedly concerned about not "wasting" money on licenses for other titles, in the event that the studio is sold. As seen by user Reddit, u/Awkward96, Jeff Grubb, in the latest episode of his podcast, GrubbSnax Selects, he talks about the future of NetherRealm, as well as discusses the fate of Wild and the Quake games recently announced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJIMW1D8lc8

What Did Jeff Say on the Podcast?

"As far as I know, we still haven't heard any news from NetherRealm saying exactly what they are working on right now, and that is a big question. People think that maybe it's a Marvel vs DCgame, and that would be great. But that's probably not what they are working on. I thought it would be Injustice 3 but it was just an educated guess."
Grubb continues:
"If you think about it a little more, does it make sense? Does having a NetherRealm using a property of WB at this moment make sense? Especially while the WB is kind of falling apart before our eyes? Who knows where NetherRealm will be next year? Is it easier to sell NetherRealm if they are working on Mortal Kombat 12 right now? That is what I heard is happening."
He then concludes:
"I am not sure about all of this, but it aligns with reality, and it aligns with what I heard about the fact that Mortal Kombat 12 make more sense at this moment (instead of other games), because this is a game they know they will make money [...] fromat the same time, you don't need to use any of the characters like Batman or Superman that might be tied to a license, in case you try to get rid of the NetherRealm or sell it to whoever it may be.
Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath | Análise - Manual dos Games Considering the current state of Warner Brosit wouldn't be a surprise if they preferred to bet on Mortal Kombat 12 for financial security reasons, although it is certainly a shame for those waiting for a new Injustice, or the fighting game from Marvel. On the bright side, if Warner Bros ends up selling NetherRealm, it becomes much more likely that we will see new games come to fruition. It is worth remembering that months ago Warner itself came forward to say that the studio was not being sold, but if Jeff's rumors are correct, apparently the company is considering this possibility in the future.
