In the current version, the experimental mod MW2xRoR2 0.4.4 integrates elements from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, from 2009, to Risk of Rain 2. Furthermore, the release published on October 11, 2026 fixes issues related to manual installations and cooperative use. However, the project still has compatibility limitations and does not distribute the commercial files of the two games.
MW2xRoR2 mixes systems from both games
According to the developer repository, it is not just about swapping textures and characters. The project inserts into Risk of Rain 2 a soldier inspired by Modern Warfare 2 with weapons, aiming, recoil, reloading, classes, perks, and killstreaks.
To do this, the mod uses a component in Rust to implement mechanics associated with the 2009 game and a C# plugin for integration with Risk of Rain 2. Meanwhile, enemies, items, and damage systems from the host game remain present. Therefore, Modern Warfare 2 weapons can interact with effects from Risk of Rain 2 items.

According to the author, the integration includes class creation, progression, 15 types of killstreaks, a minimap, and first-person and third-person camera toggling. Furthermore, the project provides for cooperative matches through Risk of Rain 2 lobbies. These features describe the creator's implementation, not an independent validation of functionality in all scenarios.
Version 0.4.4 fixes
In particular, version 0.4.4 includes the RoR2BepInExPack package in the manual installation file to reduce differences compared to the mod manager distribution. As per the development history, the mod also displays warnings when participants use different versions.

On the other hand, the tests described by the maintainer have a limited scope. Solo execution was tested in a recent update of Risk of Rain 2. However, sessions with more participants, Linux, Steam Deck, other mods, and long cooperative matches after the fix still require confirmation. Thus, it is not appropriate to announce universal compatibility.
