The project God of War Ascension PC already reaches the beginning of the first level, with Kratos chained up, but it is not yet a complete game for PC. On October 20, 2026, the official README began reporting around 9 FPS during this level, although a previous milestone, from October 18, recorded approximately 16 FPS with another stage of the renderer. In addition, the author reports improvements in the display of environments and menus. These are developer measurements, not independent tests.

This is a fan project that converts the PS3 game code for native execution on the computer using the ps3recomp tool. Therefore, it is not a conventional emulator nor an official PC edition. The initiative is also independent of the God of War III Remastered port and the God of War recompilations for PSP and PS2.

God of War Ascension PC already starts the first level

According to the technical documentation updated on October 18, the Windows version reproduces the opening screens, setup menus, and initial cinematic with synchronized audio. The author reports decoding the opening video at approximately 29.98 FPS and the main menu close to 30 FPS in his environment, after adjustments to the PS3 processor tasks.

In addition, the loading sequence allows entering the first level. The log from October 18 cited approximately 16 FPS on the custom renderer, while the README consulted on October 20 points to around 9 FPS in the level and 28 FPS in the menu with RPCS3's integrated renderer. Therefore, the numbers correspond to different moments and configurations in development and do not represent a sustained rate for the entire campaign.

The published results are measurements by the creator, conducted on his development setup. Therefore, there is still no proof of campaign stability, broad compatibility, or similar performance on other computers.

Renderer fixes textures and speeds up menus

On October 19, the project incorporated part of the RPCS3 RSX renderer, featuring Vulkan and OpenGL options, to draw the image while the game code continues to be recompiled. According to official milestones, the main menu went from about 12 to 28 FPS after a fix in the data transfer between SPU tasks and GPU surfaces. However, this result is specific to the menu and does not prove equivalent performance in the stage.

In addition, the developer reports that the textures of the first stage started to appear correctly after an adjustment in the GPU memory mapping. Even so, the first stage remains slow and the game cannot be completed from start to finish. The integration of the renderer does not mean running the entire game in the RPCS3 emulator: the project maintains the recompilation of the main code.

Is there an installable download?

There is no public installable release yet, according to the README and the STATUS file consulted on October 19. The repository provides code and instructions for developers, but does not offer a final installation executable. Therefore, there is no download button for a ready-to-use port at this stage.

To try out the local build, the project requires files from a legally owned copy of God of War: Ascension for the PS3, European edition BCES-01741, version 1.00. The repository does not provide the game, keys, or commercial data. In addition, the README mentions Visual Studio 2022, CMake, Ninja, Vulkan SDK, and about 16 GB of memory for the build, estimated by the author to take 20 to 40 minutes. This does not equate to a ready-made public installer.

What is still missing for God of War Ascension to run well on PC?

The work still needs to optimize SPU tasks, stabilize execution, and make progress through the campaign. According to the README consulted on October 20th, macOS support is paused and current execution focuses on Windows. Therefore, reaching the first stage and fixing textures represents a technical milestone, but it does not mean the game can be completed yet.
