Wii Fit Plus runs at 60 FPS on Raspberry Pi 5 in recompilation test

The project wii-recomp showcased Wii Fit Plus on Raspberry Pi 5 in a new development stage released on November 3, 2026. According to the README published by author Zontex on GitHub, a scene from the game runs at 60 FPS in 1080p on the small computer. However, the demonstration does not mean that the entire game is finished or that a ready-to-use installer exists for the public yet.

Wii Fit Plus recompiled on Raspberry Pi 5

The goal of wii-recomp is to transform Wii game code, originally made for PowerPC processors, into native programs for other equipment. To do this, the project translates the code ahead-of-time into C, compiles this code with clang, and links it to a runtime that represents console functions.

In the public progress table, the developer reports that Wii Fit Plus, version RFPE01, runs the initial screens and Body Test with simulated controls. On the Raspberry Pi 5, the balance board scene appears at 60 FPS in 1080p, while the configuration screens sit between 45 and 58 FPS, according to the author's own measurements.

These numbers are **development reports**, not results from an independent benchmark conducted by Allves Games. Therefore, they do not demonstrate consistent performance across all activities, nor full support for Wii accessories.

wii-recomp is still experimental

The repository also describes experiments with The Last Story and the original Wii menu. The former already boots a playable scene using simulated controls, but exhibits incorrect surfaces and slowness during demanding moments. Wii Menu 4.3, in turn, runs screens and settings on a Mac computer according to the developer.

The README itself points out that the system still does not run all Wii games. In addition, real physical controllers do not have full support in this version. Consequently, the results of Wii Fit Plus cannot be extrapolated to the entire library of the console.

How does recompilation work?

First, a translator identifies instructions and functions in the original executable. Then, it converts these routines into C code that a modern tool compiles for the target device. Finally, a runtime provides functions related to video, sound, inputs, and Wii services.

The project uses Vulkan or OpenGL in parts of the graphics pipeline, depending on the platform. When the translator encounters code paths it does not yet recognize, the implementation may fall back to a supporting PowerPC interpreter. Thus, it is not correct to say that all functions have already been fully translated into native code.

Is it already possible to download a native Wii Fit Plus?

As of the consultation carried out on November 3, 2026, the main documentation describes source code and compilation proceduresnot a ready-to-install public package to run Wii Fit Plus on the Raspberry Pi. There is no justification for offering a game download button.

Anyone wishing to follow the next steps can consult the original repository and its roadmap. The project does not distribute games, disk images, or commercial Nintendo files; the user must provide data from a copy they own.

The work adds to other Wii game recompilation initiatives. At Allves Games, we have already covered, for example, the experimental Wii Party port for PC. These are distinct projects with their own authors, technologies, and stages of development.

What is still missing?

Development needs to expand input device support, fix rendering differences, and run more games without crashes. Therefore, the progress of Wii Fit Plus is a relevant technical result, but it does not yet represent a complete replacement of the Wii through recompilation.
