The Road Trip Recomp 0.2.3 brings a new way to play Road Trip Adventure, the classic PlayStation 2 game also known as Choro Q HG 2, on Windows computers, Macs, and Android devices. The port uses static recompilation of the original code and offers widescreen, display refresh rates up to 120 and 240 Hz, higher resolutions, and save state support.
Developer silentsudin released version 0.2.3 on October 11, 2026. According to the official notes, the update fixes map issues, improves its display on conventional monitors, and eliminates water flickering during 120 Hz display.
Road Trip Recomp 0.2.3 fixes maps and graphical effects
The 0.2.3 update focuses on presentation and stability improvements. First, the developer fixed map display issues in different regions of the game, including when the user uses dual screens. This concept of using dual screens also appears in the experimental port of Wipeout 3 for Android.
In addition, the Enhanced Map mode now displays a clearer map within the game itself, including in single-monitor setups. It also identifies locations such as workshops and unvisited establishments.
Another fix involves the water. In certain situations, the visual effect flickered with output set to 120 Hz. The new version seeks to eliminate this flickering.
Therefore, the hotfix complements the improvements of 0.2.0, which made the GPU graphics renderer the default option on desktop and fixed issues in Fuji City. The intermediate versions 0.2.1 and 0.2.2 also added a portable package for Windows and adjusted custom texture conversion.
Road Trip Adventure runs natively on Windows, Mac and Android
The new project uses PS2Recomp technology to translate the PlayStation 2 Emotion Engine processor code ahead of time for native execution.
In addition, the developer recompiles components from the vector units and sound system. Meanwhile, the graphics renderer recreates the functions required to present the scenarios using modern technologies.
Thus, Road Trip Recomp does not rely on a conventional PS2 emulator to run the game code. However, it still uses a custom layer to reproduce services and components of the original console.

The current project already provides applications for Windows x64, macOS with Apple Silicon, and Android ARM64. On the other hand, the repository does not feature an equivalent official Linux package in this release.
The commercial game does not come with the installers either. The user needs to provide an image of their own North American copy of Road Trip, identified by the code SLUS-20398.
Widescreen, 120 Hz, and higher resolution modernize the races
Among the features of Road Trip Recomp are different aspect ratios, including 16:9, 16:10, 21:9, and 32:9. Thus, players can make better use of modern monitors without simply stretching the entire interface.
In addition, the program offers rendering with a higher internal resolution, progressive scan, and different edge-smoothing methods.
The developer also implemented support for up to 120 and 240 Hz presentation. According to the documentation, the extra frames are generated from the original geometry, while the game logic maintains its own timing.
However, this does not mean that any computer or mobile phone will be able to consistently reach these rates. The result depends on the device and the selected graphics settings.
DLSS, XeSS, FSR 3, and MetalFX are among the options
The port offers different technologies to adapt image quality to the hardware. On Windows, the project includes AMD FSR 3 and supports separate add-ons for NVIDIA DLSS and Intel XeSS.
In addition, the macOS version uses Metal features and can take advantage of MetalFX. On Android, the documentation mentions technologies such as Snapdragon GSR and Arm ASR, depending on device compatibility.
These tools are optional. Therefore, the player does not necessarily need an NVIDIA graphics card to run Road Trip Recomp on a computer.
To use DLSS or XeSS on Windows, however, it is necessary to install the official additional package and have compatible hardware. This add-on should not be confused with DLSS 5 Neural Rendering.
Android version takes advantage of AYN Thor's dual screens
Another important feature of Road Trip Recomp is support for dual-screen Android devices. The developer uses the AYN Thor as a reference to demonstrate the feature.
In this configuration, the main screen displays exploration or racing. Meanwhile, the second panel can show a regional map, vehicle information, adventure logs, and lap times.

In addition, the user can choose which information they want to track on the auxiliary screen. On devices with only a single panel, the game maintains the conventional presentation with its integrated map.
According to the creator, the application was developed primarily on the AYN Thor, equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Other Android 12 or higher devices with a Vulkan GPU may work, but do not have guaranteed universal compatibility.
Road Trip Recomp includes save states and HD textures
The project also allows creating save states through an in-game menu. Currently, the application offers four slots to record moments of the adventure.
Thus, the player can resume a specific situation without relying exclusively on the game's traditional saves.

Another feature allows using HD texture packs. The application can extract game textures, accept edited versions, and convert them into formats suitable for the platform.
In update 0.2.2, the developer fixed the conversion process for these packs in situations where the original folder did not allow writing.
In addition, there are modern control settings, acceleration and braking via analog triggers, vibration, and button remapping.
Old Road Trip Adventure project for Mac has been paused
It is worth distinguishing Road Trip Recomp from another project recently publicized. The repository Road-trip-Adventure-PS2-Recompile-MacOS, by catsandsoup, used the European PAL edition of the game.
However, the developer announced a pause in development and began publicly recommending silentsudin's project. The previous code remains available as a technical reference.
silentsudin's port uses the North American edition of Road Trip, identified as SLUS-20398. Therefore, files from the European SLES-51356 edition should not be treated as automatically compatible.
How to download Road Trip Recomp 0.2.3 on Windows
The developer has published the official files for version 0.2.3 on GitHub. The application prepares the game locally from the user's legitimate files and does not distribute the original commercial content.
- Download the official Road Trip Recomp 0.2.3 package for Windows x64.
DOWNLOAD ROAD TRIP RECOMP PORT WINDOWS UPDATED
- Extract the ZIP to a folder with write permissions, outside of Program Files.
- Run
RoadTrip.exe. - Select an image of your own North American copy of the game, in ISO, CUE/BIN or CHD format.
- Wait for the application to prepare and compile the files on your computer.
- Then, start the adventure or choose a quick race.
Windows requires a compatible 64-bit version, a processor with SSE4.1 or higher, and a GPU with Vulkan 1.3. According to the developer, approximately 2 GB of free space is required for the files and compilation.
Portable Windows
The creator also provides a portable version that stores settings, saves, and game data in a folder alongside the executable. Thus, it makes it easier to transfer the installation to another location.

- Wait for the initial preparation of the native executable.
- Configure the controls and, on compatible devices, the use of the second screen.
According to the developer, the initial compilation took approximately two and a half minutes on the AYN Thor. However, this result should not be automatically applied to other Android phones.
Road Trip Recomp is still in development
The project already allows playing Adventure mode, visiting cities, using workshops, and participating in quick races across all three platforms. However, it still receives compatibility and performance fixes.
In addition, certain features depend on the GPU, operating system, and device used. Therefore, 240 Hz options, dual-screen support, and upscaling technologies are not necessarily available on all configurations.
Road Trip Recomp also has no official affiliation with the copyright holders of Road Trip Adventure. The developer provides the application and the necessary code to prepare the game, but does not distribute the commercial disk image.
Finally, the project offers an experimental alternative to revisit the PS2 classic on modern devices. Those interested can follow new releases and report issues via the author's repository.
