The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon port: Red Rescue Team for PC received a public version on October 12, 2026. Furthermore, the developer josiahg2502-glitch made available on GitHub the native recompilation of the Game Boy Advance edition for Windows x64. Shortly after the first version 1.0.0, the update 1.0.1 fixed save state commands, the menu, and audio segments.

To do this, the project uses gbarecomp to convert GBA ARM code into x86_64 code for PC. According to the README, the proposal is to run the game without emulating the entire console. In turn, the author announces 60 FPS, but we did not perform independent tests of performance, compatibility, or campaign completion.

What has changed in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 1.0.1 port?

According to the official update notes, the creator states that they fixed the shortcut F2. Previously, the command could save the state instead of loading slot 1. Now, F1 saves and F2 restores the state, according to the developer.

In addition, the key F11 now opens the settings menu instead of closing the application. Beyond these changes, the developer altered the handling of audio routines and interrupts. According to their report, the test reached a stable 59.73 FPS and showed no audible glitches. Even so, this result is a measurement reported by the author, not a benchmark verified by Allves Games.

It is worth remembering that the initial 1.0.0 release and the 1.0.1 update occurred on the same day. Therefore, the most recent package replaces the debut version for those intending to evaluate the project.

How does the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon port work?

In this case, the recompilation works with the edition Red Rescue Team from GBA for the United States/Australia. Therefore, it should not be confused with an adaptation of the Blue Rescue Team version for Nintendo DS nor a 3D remake. The game.toml file identifies the compatible revision by hash and defines separate paths for the GBA ROM and BIOS.

Furthermore, the README describes a 1080p artistic frame around the original image. With F10, the user toggles between this frame and a clean 3:2 aspect ratio presentation. However, this does not mean that the game's backgrounds have been recreated in widescreen.

Additionally, there are gamepad controls, four switchable profiles with F9, a settings menu, and an isolated folder for saves. However, the documentation does not replace an independent analysis of the entire game's stability.

For comparison, those who follow other recompilations of the franchise can consult the coverage of Pokémon Snap Recompiled and the Gen1Recomp optimizations. However, they are different projects, with their own technologies and compatibilities.

How to download Red Rescue Team for Windows

Currently, the version repository offers a public ZIP for Windows x64. More specifically, in version 1.0.1, the published file is approximately 40.3 MB. For now, there are no Linux, macOS, or Android packages confirmed in this version.

  1. Have the files from your own legally acquired copy of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team in the compatible GBA revision, in addition to the BIOS legally obtained from your own device. Check the requirements and file names in the official game.toml.
  2. Click the button to download the ZIP directly Windows x64 for version 1.0.1. The file comes from the official GitHub and the download usually starts in the browser, without needing to open the releases page.
  1. Extract the ZIP to a local folder and consult the file START HERE.txt for the instructions of the downloaded version.
  2. If the package requests external files, use only your legitimate ROM and BIOS in the indicated paths. We do not provide copyrighted files.
  3. Open Play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.cmd or the executable indicated by the author. If errors occur, consult the README and the repository logs.

The button points to the official ZIP file of version 1.0.1, without going through the releases page. As GitHub hosts the package, the start of the download depends on browser settings and server response. This link is fixed: future versions should be checked in the developer's releases list. Official metadata confirms the file, but we have not performed installation tests.

What still needs testing?

Currently, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon port already has public code and a package for Windows x64. However, independent verifications regarding performance, controller compatibility, and campaign progress are still missing. Therefore, the numbers and features mentioned above are information published by the creator themselves.

Furthermore, we did not find, in the official sources consulted, a video demonstration of the port that allows for a direct comparison of the experience with the original version. Therefore, the GBA game captures used in this article are only visual references, not proof of the recompilation's functionality.
