Import Tuner Challenge gets PC port with Vulkan and reaches version 0.4.7

Import Tuner Challenge PC has an experimental alternative: the project ITC-Recomp released version 0.4.7 on October 19, 2026, with packages for Linux and Windows x64. The recompilation of the Xbox 360 racing game uses Vulkan and accumulates execution optimizations. However, the reduction in internal workload reported by the author does not mean an equivalent increase in FPS.

Furthermore, the developer Spooky098529 published the official ITC-Recomp repository. In turn, the project translates the 2006 game's PowerPC code to x86-64 using ReXGlue and replaces Direct3D rendering with Vulkan. It does not include commercial game files; each user must legally dump their own backup.

Import Tuner Challenge PC: what changed in recent versions?

According to the notes from release 0.4.4, there was a reduction of approximately 40% on game thread per-frame work. Therefore, this is an internal processing metric, not a measurement of 40% more frames per second. Version 0.4.3 had already reduced about 12% of the work on the rendering thread, according to the author.

After that, version 0.4.5 fixed menu commands, the turbo gauge, and cockpit instrument composition. Meanwhile, version 0.4.6 fixed the growth in graphic memory usage with each race. Thus, these adjustments belong to versions prior to 0.4.7, according to the project's history.

In addition, races can use visual interpolation to smooth movement above the original 30 Hz. However, the game logic remains at 30 Hz, as do menus and HUD animations. Smoothness depends on hardware and visual artifacts may appear.

Windows and Linux: requirements and caveats

Currently, version 0.4.7 offers packages for Linux x86-64 and Windows 10/11 x64 experimental. The README already guides execution on both systems. However, the maintainer reports tests only on the Steam Deck and a Radeon RX 7900 XT; the Windows package uses cross-compilation on Linux. Therefore, its availability does not confirm stability on all PCs.

In addition, the computer needs an x86-64 processor with SSE4.2, a graphics card compatible with Vulkan 1.3 or higher and original game files. However, the documentation still notes the absence of internal cutscenes and flickering of 2D elements when pausing with the framerate unlocked.

How to download the Import Tuner Challenge port

  1. Prepare your own copy of the original Xbox 360 game, legally extracted to a folder on your computer.
  2. Download the package corresponding to your operating system from the official v0.4.7 release.
  1. Extract the port package into the same folder as the original data, next to the file default.xex.
  2. On Linux, run ./run.sh. On Windows, use run.bat, as per the updated README. Then, consult the documentation if you need to adjust program options.

In this sense, the official metadata confirms the 0.4.7 packages: approximately 14.8 MB for Linux and 13,9 MB for Windows. However, the editorial staff did not execute the binaries. Thus, the links prove the availability of the files, without representing a compatibility test on the reader's computer.

What to expect from the project?

On the other hand, ITC-Recomp is an evolving community development, not an official re-release. It joins other Xbox 360 game recompilation experiences, such as the experimental BullyRecomp and the Army of Two ports for PC. Therefore, each project has its own authors, requirements, and stage.

Thus, follow the updated README and upcoming releases before installing. Therefore, the features described here are developer statements and public metadata, not results of independent testing.
