Contudo, esta iniciativa é diferente do Torchlight Rekindled and also of the original Torchlight sold for computers. After all, the recompilation specifically uses the Xbox 360 version, which had an interface and controls adapted for gamepad. The author does not include the commercial game files in the download.

Recompiled Torchlight brings the Xbox 360 game to PC

The developer reports using XenonRecomp and XenosRecomp tools to convert about 61,973 PowerPC functions into C++ code and the original shaders to SPIR-V with Vulkan. Thus, the game runs through a native 64-bit executable. However, the performance and consumption numbers released by the author do not represent independent benchmarks.

In addition, the package offers 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions, an uncapped FPS option, configurable FXAA, V-Sync, and fullscreen or borderless windowed mode. The developer also states that the interface receives AI-upscaled elements on the first run, featuring high-resolution fonts and icons.

Torchlight recompiled: controls and PC differences

The Xbox 360 version was designed for a physical controller: analog movement, skill commands, and custom menus. Therefore, Torchlight recompiled does not just try to map a mouse to the directional pad. Conversely, this compilation does not accept keyboard and mouse for gameplay; it is necessary to use a Windows-compatible controller.

The buttons match the symbols of the connected controller, including on PlayStation devices. Furthermore, the project recreated local achievements and removed Xbox LIVE features, such as leaderboards and online functions. Therefore, one should not expect login or Xbox 360 network services.

How to download Torchlight recompiled for Windows

The official release presents the file Torchlight-Recompiled-v1.0.zip for 64-bit Windows 10/11. The computer also needs a processor with AVX instructions, a Vulkan-compatible graphics card, and a controller. The ZIP contains the project's executable, but does not include the 2009/2011 RPG.

  1. Download the official Torchlight Recompiled v1.0 file from GitHub and extract the contents into a Windows folder.
  1. Legally obtain your own version of Torchlight for Xbox 360 XBLA, identified by the title ID 58410A7E. The game for this platform comes as a package, not as a DVD ISO.
  2. Place the package in the directory game. Alternatively, use the already extracted files, including default.xex and pak.zip.
  3. Run Settings.exe or TorchlightRecomp.exe and confirm the processing. The application creates Torchlight.pak and then allows you to start the game normally.

Finally, the author explains that Settings.exe allows you to choose the save folder, graphics settings, and startup. To play, just open TorchlightRecomp.exe with a gamepad connected. Do not distribute the commercial files generated during preparation.

What is still missing in this port?

Despite the progress, the current version has clear limits: it does not support keyboard and mouse in gameplay and does not restore Xbox LIVE functions. Furthermore, the 4K/120 FPS performance is information from the project lead; in this report, there was no independent testing to confirm these results on different PCs.

The author also mentions the possibility of a future Android ARM64 port, but does not yet provide a release date. Therefore, do not confuse this plan with an Android version available for installation.
