The TV series about Twisted Metal was officially announced in May 2019 and is in development at their film and TV studio of PlayStation Productions. According to Variety, the live-action adaptation of the vehicular combat series from PlayStation will be an action comedy written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the screenwriters of the films 'Deadpool' and 'Zombieland'.
Grubb said about the television project: "It seems that [a Sony] is potentially releasing games to coincide with their attempts to release movies and television shows based on these properties. "It seems like they are going to try to align these things with the games at the same time, and the thinking there is that they looked at [o Universo Cinematográfico Marvel] and want to have success similar to the MCU, and I think there is a thought within Sony that, 'hey, we make movies, why aren't we capitalizing on that?'" He added: "There is a prestige attached to Hollywood and TV and I think Sony is craving a bit of that, but it's also good business. If you look at what happened with The Witcher and Netflix, The Witcher 3 had its second-best year since the series premiered."
Last month, David Jaffe, the former Twisted Metal game director commented on the rumors that a revival of the series could be underway, and said he would be "very, very hurt" if it were, since Sony did not reach out to him.
"I don't think I'm Sony's favorite person right now, just because of this stream and everything else," he said, "[mas] if it's true, I would be very, very hurt that PlayStation didn't ask for my opinion at best, or, at worst, let me know it was happening. "These are the guys who reached out to me and connected me with the guys who were doing the TV show... I don't think they would take me out of it. At least, on a pure RP level, so they could say [eu estava] involved."
