Torchlight Rekindled 1.0.0 received its first public release on October 20, 2026, with official packages for homebrew-enabled Nintendo Switch, Android, Windows, and Linux. The project allows running the 2009 action RPG Torchlight on a fan-made engine. Unlike the initial research into the project, the release 1.0.0 on GitHub now contains installable files for all four platforms.

Torchlight Rekindled 1.0.0: platforms and differences

According to developer's README*, the engine uses Xbox 360 edition logic and OGRE 14 and ParticleUniverse graphics components. Thus, it offers a video game controller-oriented experience. It is not an Xbox 360 emulation nor an official version from Runic Games.*

On the Nintendo Switch, the program uses the homebrew environment and a file torchlight.nro*. On Android, the APK requires an ARM64 device running Android 12 or higher and allows choosing the folder with the game files. For Windows and Linux, there are separate x64 packages. The author states that they tested the desktop versions only on a laptop with a controller; this does not prove compatibility with all handheld PCs.*

Which game files are needed?

The downloads contain only the engine. To play, you need the file pak.zip or Pak.zip of an official copy of Torchlight. Furthermore, the folder music/ keeps the stage music; without it, the game may run without a soundtrack.

There is an important limitation: the file Pak.zip from the PC edition does not include the Xbox 360 interface. Therefore, to get the console HUD and menus, the developer advises extracting the folder console_ui/ from an official copy of the Xbox 360 version, using the script included in the repository. Without these additional files, the project displays simplified menus. The original Xbox 360 edition file already contains this interface.

How to download and prepare Torchlight Rekindled

  1. Check the requirements and instructions on official repository. On Switch, homebrew is required; on Android, ARM64 and Android 12+; on PC, choose the appropriate x64 variant.
  2. Download the official 1.0.0 package for your platform using one of the buttons below. Each button links directly to the corresponding file from the verified release.
  1. Separate the file pak.zip of your own copy of the game and the folder music/. If you use PC data and want the console interface, also prepare console_ui/ according to the README.
  2. On the Switch, place torchlight.nro and the data in sdmc:/switch/torchlight/ and start via the hbmenu. On Android, install the APK and select the data folder on first launch.
  3. On Windows, extract the ZIP and launch torchlight.exe in the folder with the data. On Linux, extract the package and run ./torchlight.sh; system dependencies remain necessary.

The project may require adjustments depending on the device. Therefore, the published packages and the author's instructions do not equate to installation tests performed by Allves Games. The links above were checked via release 1.0.0 metadata, without executing the binaries.

What to expect from this first version?

The repository includes images of the project running on the Switch and Android. The author shows virtual controls on the mobile phone and a city scene on the console. However, the capture showing 120 FPS on the Android device does not prove sustained performance on other phones, nor does it indicate a guaranteed frame rate.

Developer post about the Torchlight Rekindled project.

The release is part of a wave of projects seeking to run older games natively on new hardware. The Allves Games also accompanies different initiatives, such as the Toy Story 2 PC port and the native version of SSX 3. Each uses its own techniques and files; they are not components of Torchlight Rekindled.
