Silent Hill 2 Switch received on October 5, 2026 a public project that statically recompiles the PC version of Silent Hill 2 for native execution on the Nintendo Switch. Sh2-nx translates the x86 executable to C prior to ARM64 compilation and recreates the APIs expected by the game on top of SDL2, OpenGL, and FFmpeg.
The official README already classifies the project as playable: menus, gameplay, videos with synchronized audio, saves, and loads all work. Even so, the port remains under development and retains known issues, such as occasional stutter when loading areas or shaders and occasional glitches in some recompiled chains.
Silent Hill 2 Switch is already playable
The current state goes beyond a home screen. The game enters gameplay, plays videos with synchronized audio, and allows saving and loading progress. Furthermore, the Switch controls already map actions, running, map, inventory, pause, and aiming.
In turn, the project works with the PC Director's Cut/Restless Dreams edition and requires an exact executable, in addition to the original data folder. Furthermore, no commercial content is included in the repository.
Silent Hill 2 Switch replaces Windows APIs
To run the game outside of Windows, sh2-nx reimplements parts of Direct3D 8, DirectSound, DirectInput, and Bink. In this process, the graphics layer uses OpenGL, audio goes through SDL, and videos use FFmpeg decoders.
Additionally, there is an x86-64 Linux build, used mainly for debugging. Therefore, the same code serves as a testing environment before reaching the Switch's ARM64 binary.

The installation still requires local compilation
At this point, the repository documents how to generate the build and how to copy the result to the SD card. However, there is no verifiable public release with a ready-to-install package; therefore, this article does not offer an artificial download button.
When compiled by the user, the file sh2-nx.nro must be placed alongside sh2pc.exe and the folder data obtained from the user's own legally acquired copy. Next, the project recommends starting through the Homebrew Menu in title takeover mode, as applet mode does not provide enough memory.

Recompilation expands survival horror ports
Furthermore, sh2-nx joins other projects that bring older games to current platforms without relying on traditional emulation. For context, Allves Games also accompanies the native PC port of Silent Hill 1 and the native port of P.T. with Vulkan.
Thus, the most important advancement is having Silent Hill 2 Switch running gameplay and essential features natively. However, since the project is still WIP, compatibility and performance may change rapidly.
