Although the Resident Evil showcase event on January 21 revealed a lot about Resident Evil 8, there are still many unanswered questions about the upcoming survival horror game. In the days following the Resident Evil showcase event, Capcom updated the Resident Evil 8 Steam database page, adding new terms that reveal some surprising details about what fans can expect from the game at its launch on May 7.

As noted by Rely On Horror, the Steam database page for Resident Evil 8 was updated to add the tags Sexual Content and Open World. Curious fans asked proven Resident Evil leaker AestheticGamer exactly what these tags could mean, as Capcom has given no indication that Resident Evil 8 is a true open-world game. And if AestheticGamer's information is correct, "open world" may not be the same as what most people associate with the term.

It doesn't look like Resident Evil 8 will have a huge and sprawling map like most open-world games. AestheticGamer claims that the Resident Evil 8 development team describes the game as a Metroidvania title. What this means is that all areas in Resident Evil 8 are connected, with players needing to return to previously visited areas more frequently than in other Resident Evil games. This type of design is not really new to the franchise, as it doesn't seem much different from the first Resident Evil game, which took place in a mansion with many connected areas. So, while some fans might be put off by the "open world" moniker, it seems it will actually be very faithful to Resident Evil's roots.

Regarding sexual content, AestheticGamer claims that there is nudity in Resident Evil 8. More specifically, the main villains of Resident Evil 8, the vampire-like women who can transform into moths, appear naked in the game for brief moments. He continued by saying that the women can transform into "crawling spider things, which aren't very attractive," so it will be interesting to see that happen in the game.

The vampire women of Resident Evil 8 have become quite popular within the community, with Lady Dimitrescu, who is apparently the leader of the group and was named as such for ruling Castle Dimitrescu, proving to be especially popular. There has already been a flood of Lady Dimitrescu cosplays and fan art, and there will likely be even more when the game itself is released later this year.

Although the release date for Resident Evil 8 is not until May 7, PS5 owners can get a taste of what to expect by checking out the Maiden demo that is currently available for download. Capcom has said that a second demo is also in the works, although details about it have not yet been revealed at the time of this writing.
