KyTyPS5 brings Wolverine to gameplay and speeds up Astro Bot

KyTyPS5 takes Wolverine into gameplay in a new demonstration published on September 30, 2026, just a few days after the PlayStation 5 emulator managed to reach only the game's menu. At the same time, an experimental fork of the project brought a significant performance jump in Astro Bot, with some sections going from around 19 FPS to approximately 60 FPS.

The two results represent different advances. In the case of Marvel’s Wolverine, the news is about compatibility: the game can now enter a three-dimensional scene. Meanwhile, in Astro Bot, the highlight is the optimization of a specific KyTyPS5 fork, which also fixes some graphical issues.

KyTyPS5 takes Wolverine into gameplay for the first time

Marvel’s Wolverine had already reached the main menu through KyTyPS5, a result that Allves Games covered previously. In that test, the game ran at approximately 2 FPS on a computer with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and GeForce RTX 5090. Furthermore, any attempt to advance beyond the menu ended in failure.

The most recent demonstration overcomes precisely this limitation. Now, the game can enter a three-dimensional area and render the character and the environment. Therefore, there is a clear technical delta compared to the previous test.

This does not mean that Marvel’s Wolverine is playable on PC. The demonstration remains extremely slow, with behavior close to a slideshow, in addition to presenting visual issues. The relevant breakthrough is being able to overcome the barrier that previously ended execution at the menu.

Astro Bot reaches around 60 FPS in an experimental fork

Another recent breakthrough involves Astro Bot. Bryan Adams has been working on a customized fork of KyTyPS5 aimed at improving the game's performance. The first comparisons show large differences in certain scenes.

In the start section of a new game, the main build of KyTyPS5 runs at approximately 19 FPS and can still remain stuck on a frame for about 20 seconds. In the experimental fork, the same segment reaches approximately 60 FPS.

The beginning of the Crash Site area shows similar behavior. The main implementation operates around 18 FPS, while the fork reaches approximately 60 FPS in the presented test.

However, the gain is not uniform across all parts. During the entrance of the Sky Garden stage, for example, the comparison shows approximately 5 FPS in the main implementation and about 25 FPS in the fork. Thus, the numbers should not be interpreted as the entire Astro Bot running stably at 60 FPS.

Fork also fixes Astro Bot graphical issues

The changes do not only affect the frame rate. The fork restores the Sky Garden cloud layer, which had rendering issues, and also eliminates visual artifacts found on the planets.

This set of improvements indicates that part of the work involves specific rendering paths and not just load reduction or alteration of performance limits.

The experimental version mentioned in the tests can be identified by the commit 4068f4ac. As this is a community fork, the results should not be automatically attributed to the main KyTyPS5 branch.

Results need to be separated from the main build

This distinction is especially important because KyTyPS5 continues to evolve on multiple fronts. An optimization created in a fork may later reach the main project, undergo changes, or even be discarded.

In addition, emulation benchmarks depend on the build, the hardware, the tested segment, and the settings used. Therefore, a peak of 60 FPS in certain Astro Bot scenes does not guarantee the same framerate throughout the entire campaign.

The same caution applies to Marvel’s Wolverine. The fact that the game enters gameplay demonstrates compatibility progress, but does not yet allow it to be classified as playable.

PS5 emulation continues to advance rapidly

KyTyPS5 has been showing frequent changes in commercial PS5 games. Astro Bot had already evolved from results below 20 FPS in certain sections to tests that now reach approximately 60 FPS in the experimental fork.

Now, the new fork shows that additional optimizations can still significantly alter the behavior of the same game. At the same time, Wolverine demonstrates that recent titles are also starting to move past the initial boot stages.

Despite the pace, KyTyPS5 remains experimental. Results obtained in specific builds do not represent guaranteed compatibility, stability throughout an entire campaign, or an equivalent alternative to original hardware.

Additionally, the emulator does not provide commercial games. Tests must use files obtained legally from the user's own copies.
