The Chaotix Recompiled 0.4.1 adapts Knuckles’ Chaotix, from Sega 32X, to Windows, Linux and Android. Released on October 14, 2026, the version brings together true widescreen in stages, touch controls and separate music and effects settings. However, the tests released by the author still have important limitations on Linux and mobile phones.
The official project release offers a ZIP for Windows, a package for Linux and two APKs. Furthermore, it does not include the ROM or the game's commercial assets. Therefore, the user needs to provide their own compatible copy of Knuckles’ Chaotix.
Chaotix Recompiled 0.4.1 expands the scenery in the stages
The project pre-translates the code from the 32X processors for execution on the target computer or device. At the same time, a compatibility layer reproduces hardware functions, such as graphics, timing and audio.
According to the documentation, the levels already allow playing with sound and accessing menus and character selection. The highlight is the widescreen: the renderer draws blocks, objects, and characters in the additional side areas. Thus, the image does not rely solely on stretching or cropping the original frame.
In 16:9, the area described by the project corresponds to 426 × 224 pixels. However, scenes outside the levels remain in 4:3. The author also maintains checks to compare the central region with the original presentation, without this representing an independent test by this report.
Version 0.4.1 separates volumes and customizes touch buttons
In the OPTIONS menu, the player finds VOLUME, MUSIC, and EFFECTS. This way, they can reduce the music without silencing the match effects. Furthermore, the volume change takes effect immediately, without requiring a restart.
Another feature allows changing the touch control images. To do this, the user places BMP files with specific names in the folder Mods/Touch, following the README present in that directory.
On Android, the Mods folder is now located in the app's file area, at Android/data/org.chaotixrecompiled/files/Mods. This way, music packs and button images are more accessible via file manager or computer.
What the Windows, Linux, and Android tests prove
The release notes report automated tests and ROM boot checks on Windows. The Linux package, in turn, was tested under WSL, based on Ubuntu 22.04 and glibc 2.35. Therefore, this does not equate to validating execution on all distributions or on a physical Steam Deck.
The project also describes Android execution in an API 36 emulator. However, the APKs for this release have not undergone testing on a physical device, according to the author themselves. The 32-bit ARM variant maintains this caveat.
Furthermore, build configurations for macOS and iOS do not mean ready-to-use packages for these platforms. Verified public downloads for this version cater to Windows, Linux, and Android. The site also tracks other projects of this type, such as the recompilation of Geometry Wars 2 for computers.

The port requires the ROM of the Japan or USA edition. The program verifies the SHA-1 0c2fff7bc79ed26507c08ac47464c3af19f7ced7 and rejects different files. On the other hand, it does not require a separate 32X BIOS.

- On Windows or Linux, extract the package and run ChaotixRecompiled. On Android, install the corresponding official APK and open the application.
- On the preparation screen, select your own ROM using the search button, by dragging the file on your computer, or via touch options.
- Wait for the file verification. Afterward, the program copies the approved ROM to the data folder and allows you to start the game.
- Finally, adjust the aspect ratio and controls in the menu. Consult the official documentation if the ROM is rejected or there are compatibility issues.
The port also offers Time Attack and local achievements. However, these features remain on the device and do not constitute integration with an online account. The options and tests described are those disclosed by the developer for this version.
