The developer presented a recompilation of Guitar Hero Van Halen in November 5, 2026 as an experimental project for Windows. The software named GHVanHRecomp, by ElGuslml, turns Xbox 360 version code into a native executable. According to the technical catalog Decomp Buddy, the first public version is 0.1.0 and is still in beta.

Thus, the goal is not to distribute the game commercially, but to run a legitimate copy on the computer with presentation and control improvements. According to the project's description, the creator has already played the songs from start to finish with an Xbox 360 guitar on the guitar and bass parts. There is, however, no comprehensive independent validation for all instruments, graphics cards, and songs.

Guitar Hero Van Halen: what changes on PC?

In addition, the work uses static recompilation tools from the ReXGlue family. According to information provided by the author, the program allows frame rates of 60 FPS, just like on the console, as well as experimental modes of 120, 144, 160, 165, or even 240 FPS on compatible monitors.

On the other hand, these options do not guarantee performance on any computer. The program is still in testing and the user needs to check musical synchronization, audio latency, and controller response on their own hardware.

Guitar Hero Van Halen: resolution and instruments

In turn, the released version is aimed at Windows and offers widescreen, ultrawide options, vertical synchronization, and image adjustments such as AMD FSR and NVIDIA NIS. The announced compatibility with Xbox 360 version guitars is especially relevant for those who have preserved their original accessories.

However, the project reports complete testing of the guitar and bass parts, while drums, vocals, and certain AMD equipment still have validation limitations. Therefore, it is not appropriate to classify this beta as a complete recreation of all the game's features.

How to follow the recompilation

Therefore, the developer gathers the changes in the GHVanHRecomp repository on GitHub. The topic emerged from a commit published on November 5. The Decomp Buddy catalog also shows project status, but it does not replace the author's documentation or your own testing.

The official v0.1.0 release provides two packages for Windows 64-bit. They do not include the original game files, which must come from a legitimate user copy:

First of all, anyone who decides to try a public version should check the official release, Windows requirements, and the required files from the Guitar Hero: Van Halen disc itself. Do not use packages that include the commercial game ISO; the recompilation work does not grant distribution rights for the original content.

Other Xbox 360 games on PC

In addition, the growth of these projects helps explain why different Xbox 360 games are gaining native alternatives. For example, Allves Games also accompanies the recompilation of Torchlight for Windows, which is a separate project and does not share the same requirements or mechanisms.

Finally, GHVanHRecomp remains experimental. Until independent testing is published, consider the FPS, controls, and compatibility results as claims and demonstrations by the author, not as a guarantee of functionality.
