Polished Crystal 3D received a major expansion in Gen2Recomped on October 8, 2026. The project's code now recognizes 86 building pattern variants from the Polished Crystal 3.2.3 mod, including buildings, roofs, towers, signs, and trees. The novelty seeks to make the depth presentation of the cities of Johto and Kanto more faithful.
Initially registered in a development commit, the change was integrated into the public version 0.8.14, released on October 8, 2026. However, this does not mean that Polished Crystal is fully completed in the project.
Polished Crystal 3D gains more building variety
According to the documentation added to the repository, the 86 patterns include roof strips and large buildings in Goldenrod, shops and buildings in Celadon, Pokémon Centers, Poké Marts, Radio Tower, and Lighthouse. In addition, the list includes Ecruteak pagodas, the Azalea kiln, Alph chambers, and awnings in the port area.
Furthermore, the profiles use map grids extracted from the game. Therefore, the geometry does not rely solely on generic models placed over the scenery: it must follow the characteristics of each map and its elements.

At the same time, the work fixes an issue where the 3D terrain could appear transparent. In this case, the cause was in the copying of a texture atlas while the 3D rendering state was still active. Now, the code performs this copy in an isolated graphics state and restores the scene afterwards.
Furthermore, the commit records mesh tests and visual checks, but does not prove that all scenarios are ready to play without glitches. Therefore, the 86 patterns represent technical coverage of the scenario, not a final version of the game.
Sprite and map fixes in Polished Crystal 3D
In turn, another change affects Sudowoodo and the variable sprites of Polished Crystal. The project started to distinguish the organization specific to this mod from that used by the original Crystal. Thus, it avoids treating certain sprites as if they followed the same address table.
In addition, the importer now preserves horizontal and vertical mirroring attributes of tiles, as well as correctly decompressing the Pokégear map graphics and the player icon. These differences also affect the representation of roofs and buildings in voxel mode.
To receive the new features, existing installations must re-import their own compatible copy of Polished Crystal after updating the program. According to the technical log, this re-import regenerates the visual assets without overwriting saved progress files.

What the tests actually confirm
The developer reports having verified mesh generation on 605 Polished Crystal maps, in addition to performing rendering inspections and regression tests. However, this result describes checks made within the project's own environment, not an independent compatibility assessment across all devices.
In addition to the visual work, the same development cycle brought fixes for Pokémon Emerald, Pokémon Prism, and fourth-generation level-up evolutions. Despite this, the editorial highlight of this update is the visual treatment of Polished Crystal, which received a significant number of build profiles.
In this context, Gen2Recomped is a native recreation that uses data imported from games provided by the user. Therefore, it does not distribute commercial ROMs. For this reason, anyone who wants to experience the features needs to use their own legally acquired copy and check the compatibility indicated by the project.
Is Polished Crystal 3D already at version 0.8.14?
Yes. Version 0.8.14 of Gen2Recomped was released on October 8, 2026, at 05:52 UTC, after the commit with the new standards. The code comparison confirms that this change made it into the published version. Even so, it is necessary to re-import the compatible Polished Crystal files to renew the visual features. The procedure does not overwrite save files.
The Allves Games has already explained the Pokémon Platinum improvements in version 0.8.1. It also detailed the second screen editor introduced in version 0.7.97. Now, the work with Polished Crystal shows another front of the same development.
