The Gen2Recomped 0.8.18 received on October 11, 2026 a major expansion for Pokémon Emerald: developer UNDERdecoded has implemented the logic for the seven facilities of the Battle Frontier, the challenge area from the Game Boy Advance game. The update includes battle rules, opponents, rewards, and automated tests. However, the available code does not prove that all challenges have been completed in independent tests.
First, the work appears in the official release 0.8.18 and in the technical documentation of the project. The project recreates Pokémon game systems with a custom engine in Lua and LÖVE2D, using data extracted from copies provided by the player. Therefore, this is not traditional GBA hardware emulation.
Battle Frontier: Gen2Recomped 0.8.18 recreates seven facilities
First, in the Battle Tower, the author documents Single and Double challenges, Level 50 and Open Level categories, winning streaks, Battle Points, and encounters against Anabel. The implementation also provides for saving and continuing a run. In version 0.8.18, partner Multi battles were still missing; however, version 0.8.19 implemented this mode.
Gen2Recomped 0.8.19 adds partner battles
On October 11, 2026, the commit 34b591b added Multi Battle Rooms to the Pokémon Emerald Battle Tower. The official project documentation describes six partner candidates, each with two Pokémon, and seven double battles in two-versus-two teams.
Furthermore, the partner uses artificial intelligence to select its own moves. The code includes team selection, dialogue, sprites, and Battle Point rewards. However, the link and original recorder features remain unconfirmed for full support, and tests documented by the author do not replace independent gameplay validation.

In addition, the Battle Palace applies rules where the nature of each Pokémon influences its actions. Meanwhile, the Battle Arena introduces the evaluation of Mind, Skill and Body after three turns. The project also includes the leaders Spenser and Greta. However, the author describes differences regarding move selection and the cartridge's visual effects.
In the Battle Pike, choices between doors lead to rooms with trainers, status conditions, wild Pokémon or healing, culminating in challenges against Lucy. In the Battle Factory, the system allows selecting rental Pokémon and trading them after victories, with confrontations against Noland. Thus, each facility retains distinct mechanics.
Battle Frontier gets Battle Pyramid and Battle Dome
In turn, the Battle Pyramid generates floors and distributes opponents and items. The work includes its own bag, floor progression, and battles against Brandon. Even so, the documentation lists visual and interaction differences, including screens and behaviors that do not fully reproduce the original.
Finally, the Battle Dome closes out the set of seven facilities with the tournament format and the presence of Tucker. Thus, version 0.8.18 expands the scope of the recreated challenges, without automatically turning the project into a perfect reproduction of Pokémon Emerald.

In addition, the developer included technical checks and testing tools for different installations. This helps identify regressions in scripts and battles. However, a completed automated test does not equate to proving all matches, animations, and rules in actual use.
Pokémon Platinum receives additional changes
Beyond Emerald, the update advances experimental components of Pokémon Platinum, including Battle Frontier systems and presentation features linked to the Super Contest. The documentation also records fixes in Emerald events and effects. Therefore, the release is not limited to adding maps.

This evolution is independent of the offline Portuguese translation introduced in previous versions. Allves Games also followed the experimental expansion of Pokémon Platinum in Gen2Recomped 0.8.1. Meanwhile, the version 0.8.19, released on October 11, records 52 previously ignored statistics in the Emerald port, including steps, battles, captures, evolutions, and saves. As a result, the code now triggers gym leader rematch rules, according to the , official update documentation.
Gen2Recomped 0.8.19: rematches and download
In turn, the 0.8.19 update for Emerald now grants rematches against gym leaders every 60 wild battles, 20 trainer battles, or 20 Frontier battles. After completing the campaign, each check has a 31 in 100 chance of unlocking an eligible leader, with no guarantee of an immediate duel. Frontier battles use a separate counter, while Wattson depends on the New Mauville event. The project is still experimental and requires legitimate game files. Therefore, the download routes below point to recent official packages, and not necessarily to 0.8.18 covered in the title.
How to download and update Gen2Recomped
- Download the package for your platform using the corresponding button. Windows uses ZIP; Linux and macOS have their own files; Android uses APK, and iOS requires IPA installation via a compatible method.
- Extract or install the application according to the platform. On Linux, the ZIP file contains an AppImage; on iOS, the IPA requires sideload installation.
- Start the launcher and import the files from your own copy of an officially compatible game. Follow the format and version instructions of , official README.
- If you were already using the project, back up your saves and settings before updating. Then, check GitHub for the limitations of each game and platform.
Regardless, the project is still in development. In addition, version 0.8.19 records Frontier battles in a separate counter and respects special conditions, such as the Wattson event in New Mauville. The author documented 22 automated verifications for the new rules. However, these internal tests do not demonstrate that all rematches or installations will work without errors on real devices. Therefore, check the requirements and back up before updating.
