The Burst Limit Recompiled received a VPN-free online matchmaking system in version 0.4.0-alpha, released on October 7, 2026. In addition, the project added options related to AMD FSR 4 and maintained public packages for Windows and Linux. The recompilation turns the Xbox 360 game Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit into a native PC program without distributing the original game.

The Windows route of Allves Games already finds the latest version made available by the author, 0.4.2-alpha, from October 10. However, the central news of this article is the online mode introduced in 0.4.0. Therefore, information about its operation is attributed to the project's README and changelog, not independent tests of our own.

Burst Limit Recompiled adds online lobby

Now, players can find rooms directly through the Player Match menu, without manually entering IP addresses or using Radmin VPN. According to developer iExplosiveRage, matchmaking uses a lobby server; afterwards, computers attempt to communicate directly over the internet.

Additionally, the connection can fall back to a relay when direct communication fails. Input lag settings are shared among participants. However, the creator warns of failures on certain networks and potential desynchronizations; there is no guarantee of a flawless experience everywhere.

The old LAN and VPN mode remains available. In turn, the new implementation is not equivalent to official support from Bandai Namco or the former Xbox LIVE services.

FSR 4 arrives as an experimental option

The project also announces AMD FSR 4 for compatible graphics cards and maintains alternatives like FSR 3.1.5, DLSS, and DLAA. However, the README itself states that the author has not yet tested FSR 4 on AMD GPUs. Therefore, its presence in the menu is not proof of visual or performance gains.

Other features include frame rate control, increased internal resolution, and camera adjustments. The performance described in the documentation depends on specific equipment and configurations. Thus, we do not attribute universal FPS numbers to the package.

Does Burst Limit Recompiled work on Windows and Linux?

The main build uses Xbox 360 game code converted in advance to C++ and a Direct3D 12 graphics layer. For Linux and Steam Deck, the project provides a ZIP with vkd3d-proton, DXVK and script for execution via Wine/Proton.

The developer claims to have validated compatibility components on AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. However, online matches via Wine/Proton were not yet tested in the consulted documentation. Therefore, the existence of the Linux package does not prove parity with Windows.

The recompilation requires the American NTSC-U edition of the Xbox 360 game and legally acquired proprietary files. The executable verifies the game on the first launch and can prepare the data from the ISO. No ROM, disc, or commercial file accompanies the port distribution.

How to update the recompiled game on Windows

Before starting, back up your saves, settings, and game files. Then, check for the latest version on official releases. The installer keeps commercial data in a separate folder and requires its own copy.

  1. Ensure you have a legitimate copy of Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit for Xbox 360, NTSC-U edition.
  2. Download the updated Windows version of the port using the button below.

  1. Extract the ZIP file and keep its original files in game_data_root, when using manual installation.
  2. Run burstlimit.exe and select your American ISO if the program requests the data source.
  3. Check the file burstlimit.toml and the lobby address if you are updating an old version.

Linux/Steam Deck: there is an official public package, but the site's friendly Linux route is still pending because the previous recording received a security refusal. Therefore, this draft does not feature an unvalidated Linux button. The compatibility guide is in the developer README.

What remains to be validated in this version?

Despite the improvements, the documentation reports limitations in online mode, FSR 4, and some upscaling combinations. Even so, the update represents an independent technical advancement, as has occurred with other PC recompilation projects tracked by Allves Games.

Likewise, the experimental Breakdown port has its own characteristics; it should not serve as a demonstration or benchmark for Burst Limit.

The screenshots of the launcher itself and the settings panel help visualize the development. However, online results and FSR 4 behavior need confirmation through practical testing on each piece of hardware.
