The ARMSX3 fixes crashes in update 1.6.3, released for Android on November 5, 2026, with specific improvements for PlayStation 3 games. According to the official notes published by the project, Yakuza: Dead Souls, Journey and Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise now avoid crashes reported in previous builds. The announcement cites tests by the author and contributors, and not an independent assessment of general compatibility.

Furthermore, the new version modifies the XMB animation and the progress shown during shader compilation. Thus, the update mixes fixes in games with interface enhancements. This is the ARMSX3 emulator for Android, which should not be confused with the PlayStation 2 ARMSX2.

ARMSX3 fixes crashes in Yakuza, Journey and Naughty Bear

First, the project states that Yakuza: Dead Souls stops freezing or closing unexpectedly. A contributor on Discord performed the test, using a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for the captures. However, this does not mean the title will run stably on all devices or GPUs.

In Journey, tests indicate that the Graveyard section no longer presents the mentioned freezing. To achieve this, the project now disables MLAA antialiasing by default for this game. Therefore, the change is specific and should not be presented as a global image improvement.

Already Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise receives a fix for unexpected closing. According to the changelog, the more demanding scenes also had a slight improvement, without disclosing a standardized benchmark. For this reason, there is no basis to promise an FPS number for other mobile phones.

ARMSX3 1.6.3 improves the PS3 XMB

Another novelty is in XMB mode, which gained glowing particles following the interface's color wave. When the device or controller offers compatible motion sensors, the effect can react to tilting. Thus, the menu attempts to reproduce more details of the original console's appearance.

In addition, shader creation and linking progress appears in an informational box. Reading games and saves with damaged files PARAM.SFO also received safer handling. These changes do not eliminate the need for testing on real hardware nor do they guarantee universal support for PS3 games.

ARMSX3 fixes crashes: how to download 1.6.3

The official release contains APK variants identified by Android/SDK level and ARM architecture. Before installing, check your system version and CPU compatibility. The files below were listed on the official GitHub; the package does not include games, firmware, or commercial files.

  1. Choose an official APK according to your Android and the variant indicated on the release page.
  1. Download only a compatible version. Check the full package name so you don't mix Android 11, 13, and 15 builds or the legacy variant.
  2. Open the APK only if you trust the project and the downloaded file. If Android requests authorization to install the package, review the permissions.
  3. After installation, configure your own legally obtained files according to the emulator's documentation. Do not use illegally distributed game or firmware packages.

It is worth remembering that the four APKs are public packages verifiable by name, version, and size in the official release; this report did not execute the installer. Therefore, users of other chipsets should consult the requirements and compatibility reports before testing.

What has changed since previous versions?

In previous updates, the project was already working on XMB improvements and multimedia file playback. Version 1.6.3 continues this development, but its main November milestone is the fix for the three games mentioned. In comparison, our coverage of ARMSX3 1.1.1 dealt with another set of issues.

To evaluate a specific game, it is recommended to consult updated release notes and reports from users with the same processor and driver. However, an isolated capture does not prove that the entire campaign can be completed without flaws.

November 6 Update: ARMSX3 1.6.4

Following version 1.6.3 described above, the team released ARMSX3 1.6.4, identified in the release notes of November 5, 2026. The new update fixes a rarer crash Yakuza: Dead Souls, which could occur after hours of gameplay. The project thanks a community contributor for testing.

In addition, the authors report greater combat fluidity in games Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty and Into the Nexus. The 30 to 38 FPS range on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mentioned in the notes is a result reported by the project, not an independent test by Allves Games.

Version 1.6.4 also adjusts settings to reduce crashes in Final Fantasy XIII, Uncharted 3 and God of War: Ascension. Therefore, anyone who has already installed version 1.6.3 can check the new fixes before updating. Do not treat the changelog as a guarantee of performance on all devices.
