pokerecomp 0.1.70 arrived on October 2, 2026 with a major expansion to the mod API. Version 58 now allows custom NPCs to speak using the game's own text box and move around the map, in addition to fixing Dude's catch demonstration in Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal.

The project is a native Godot 4 reimplementation of the classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color Pokémon games. Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal can be run without traditional emulation, provided the user supplies their own legally acquired copy.

pokerecomp 0.1.70 expands the NPC API

The main new feature is Mod API 58. A mod-created NPC can now request a text action and open the game's native dialog box.

The system controls successive pages and informs the NPC when the box has been closed. This way, a mod can chain dialogue, a capture demonstration, and even the delivery of a gift without needing to replace the default interface.

The same API also received a movement action. The command step moves the NPC one cell using normal speed and animation, while collisions with walls, water, objects, the player, and other solid NPCs continue to be respected.

Dude's capture demonstration has been fixed

The update also fixes the capture sequence presented by Dude on Route 29. Previously, the cutscene could send out the first Pokémon in the player's party instead of keeping the demonstration separate.

In 0.1.70, the Dude stays on scene and throws the Poké Ball on his own, just like in the original cartridge. The same fix applies to catch demonstrations triggered by mods.

API 58 maintains compatibility with supported mods

According to the official notes, the mod API version is now 58. Compatible mods continue to work, while the new features can be used by projects looking to create more complex scenes.

The cartridge cache format remains 160. Anyone coming from 0.1.67 or earlier needs to re-import the cartridge file when the launcher prompts. Saves are stored separately and remain intact.

Version is available on various platforms

Version 0.1.70 maintains builds for Windows x86-64 and ARM64, macOS, Linux x86-64 and ARM64, Android, iPhone and iPad, and Nintendo Switch with homebrew.

On iOS, the IPA file remains unsigned and relies on sideloading via tools like AltStore or SideStore. On Android, distribution occurs via APK. Meanwhile, on the Switch, the project provides a package for consoles already running homebrew.

pokerecomp does not distribute commercial game content. The user-provided cartridge is verified via SHA-1 and decrypted into a private cache. Therefore, proper use requires one's own legally acquired copy.
